TEXT: Leisure Lodge
1948-1980
On this site stood Leisure Lodge one of Waterloo County's best known and popular night spots. Leisure Lodge was the dream of Olaf "Olie" Waimel who designed and built the facility with the help of his brother "Hants" and their friends over a 3 1/2 year period. The original building seat 280 people and opened on September 11, 1948. It was later expanded to seat over 1,000.

For over 20 years entertainment was provided by the Johnny Kostigian Orchestra which provided a big band sound for the 1,100 people who regularly flocked to the Lodge's outdoor dance floor. Leisure Lodge was destroyed by fire on February 22, 1980.
