Land for the park was donated by the Matney Family and it was established in 2000. Though a small park it is along the Kettle River.

This public access park was made possible by the adoption of a policy plan for local management of the Kettle River by the Ferry and Stevens County Commissioners. The plan was adopted in 1991.
The property for this park was donated by the Matney Family as the first public access park on the eastern reach of the Kettle River.
