EN: In 2012 is with the European larch is a particularly fine tree in the center. It is originally a tree in the Alps and Carpathians and comes at altitudes above 2000 m before. There, they can form the tree line and assume important avalanche protection functions. In Germany the European larch is now common in the low mountain ranges and also in the plane, but takes only about 1% of the forest area.
As the only native conifer sheds her needles in autumn, showing before a spectacular, golden yellow in autumn - and the delicate light green of the new needles in early spring is also no less captivating. Why the European larch needles their yields, in contrast to all the other evergreen conifers, has not clearly explored. Probably because they can withstand temperature extremes better without needles - and come in their ancestral homeland, in the high mountains, frequently. Hardly any other native species is hardy: to -40 ° C.
There in the mountains you will find impressive larch - individually standing old tree shapes that have withstood all weather event. They are partly over 1000 years old, that have experienced Karl the Great in his crossing of the Alps.
