This lovely relief tombstone for members of the McDowell family stands in a part of Dallas' historic Oakland Cemetery that is quickly being reclaimed by underbrush, poison ivy, and unmanaged vegetation.
The tombstone looks like an unfinished chipped block of stone. Inset in the center is a carved smooth oval shape. A relief carving of leaves decorates the top and bottom of the oval. In the center, the name "McDowell" is carved in ornate relief letters.
Blasterz tried to go behind the tombstone to definitively ascertain the identity of which McDowells were buried here, but out of the corner of an eye we saw a snake moving in the underbrush, and decided to leave that mystery unsolved. We don't mess with copperheads.
