We were about 2 days early before the trout were to arrive at the hatchery. However we were not too early to fine two timelines.
The Sherman Creek Hatchery is operated by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The hatchery was built in 1991 and currently serves as a rainbow trout and kokanee rearing facility as well as the principal white sturgeon spawning hatchery.
Life on the River
Sturgeon Life Begins: Eggs are laid
5 to 8 days hatchlings emerge and are about 1 cm in length
12 to 14 days, the fry are about 2.5 cm in length.
1 year the sturgeons are about 31 cm in length and weigh about 2 kg.
2 to 3 years sturgeons are about 50 cm in length and weigh about 10 kg.
10 years sturgeons are about 100 cm in length and weigh about 30 kg
30 years sturgeons are about 150 cm in length and weigh about 40 kg.
50 years sturgeons are about 250 cm in length and weigh about 90 kg.
100 years sturgeons are 300 cm in length and weigh about 275 kg.
