Located on the Honolulu Harbor in Downtown Honolulu, Aloha Tower is an iconic symbol of Hawaii. Built in September of 1926, this was the tallest building in the islands for four decades. Today, Aloha Tower is still a docking port for Oahu’s cruise ships, but this historic place has also transformed into the revitalized Aloha Tower Marketplace: a mixed-use space now part of Hawaii Pacific University, featuring student residences, meeting space, community event areas, and a variety of restaurants.

Called Aloha'Oe, the bronze statue depicts a gracious Hula dancer with an expression of sadness on her face.

The plaque reads:

"Aloha'Oe / Farewell to Thee / One of the most beautiful songs of farewell was written in 1877 by a Hawaiian princess who saw two lovers parting as she returned on horseback over the pali from an outing to Maumawili. / Her song has been played at Boat Day departures ever since by the Royal Hawaiian Band. / This statue depicting the bittersweet sorrow of parting and named "Aloh'Oe" is dedicated to the memory of that princess who later became Hawaii's beloved Queen Liliuokalani. / Sculptors: Pegge Hopper, Honolulu Leo Rijn, Los Angeles / Art Director: Cindy Turner, Honolulu Boat Days Hula Consultant: Iwalani Tseu, Honolulu Project Director: U.J. (Rick) Rainalter, Jr, Honolulu / Commissioned in 1994 by Aloha Tower"
