This park, commemorating America's landing on the moon, is named for the location of the Eagle’s landing, the Sea of Tranquility. The park’s design evokes the moon, with round portal windows, cylindrical fountains, and Neil Armstrong’s footprint.

Six years after the first moon landing, Houston’s civic pride as the home of the space program’s mission control spilled over into the creation of this park. On the east wall is a huge plaque with the story of Apollo 11. The space exploration-theme is carried over with round portal windows (entrances to the parking garage below) and cylindrical fountains (actually smokestacks ventilating the garage). In the northern reach of the park are two memorials, one to each shuttle disaster. Neil Armstrong’s footprint is somewhere in the park, but not many can find it.

The park, with its own stage set behind the fountains, hosts city events when Hermann Square isn’t large enough. City of Houston Events.
