1215 wurde die Kirche Nikolaikirche genannt. Erst in 1388 erhielt sie den Namen „Zum heiligen Kreuz“. (

Die Kirche brannte fünfmal ab - zuletzt am am 13. Februar 1945. Heute steht sie als Stadtkirche allen Einwohnern Dresdens und auch Touristen offen. Jährlich besuchen über 200.000 Menschen die Gottesdienste und Konzerte, gut weitere 300.000 Besucher besichtigen die Kirche. (
