Die ursprüngliche Pöppelmannbrücke wurde 1719 nach dem Entwurf vom Barockarchitekten Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann an der Stelle einer alten Holzbrücke errichtet. Der mittlere Brückenabschnitt bestand damals aus einer hölzernen Hausbrücke. Die an beiden Seiten zum Muldeufer aus Stein errichteten Korbbögen sind bis heute erhalten.

* 1813 - Zerstörung der hölzernen Hausbrücke durch die Kosaken im Kampf gegen Napoleon
* 1894 - hölzerne Hausbrücke wird durch stählerne Fachwerkträger ersetzt
* 1945 - Sprengung des mittleren Brückenabschnitts durch die deutsche Wehrmacht / eine Hängebrücke verbindet die Steinbögen an beiden Ufern
* 1972 - eine stählerne Konstruktion mit einer obenliegenden Stahlblechfahrbahn und einem Gussasphaltbelag verbindet die beiden Ufer
* 2000 - 800-Jahr-Feier Grimmas - stählerne Fachwerkbrücke, durch ein schlankes Stahlbeton-Sprengwerk ersetzt und feierlich eingeweiht
* 2002 - Jahrhunderthochwasser - Teileinsturz der Brücke
* 2012 - Neueröffnung der Brücke - ein Sprengwerkbogen in Stahlbau überspannt den mittleren Brückenabschnitt
* 2013 - erneuetes Hochwasser - die Pöppelmannbrücke hält Stand

The original 'Pöppelmannbrücke' was built in 1719 according to a design by the Baroque architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann at the site of an old wooden bridge. The middle bridge section consisted of a wooden house bridge. The stone basket arches on both sides of the bridge are still standing at their places.

* 1813 - Destruction of the wooden house bridge by the Cossacks in the fight against Napoleon
* 1894 - wooden house bridge is replaced by steel truss
* 1945 - Destruction of the middle bridge section by the German Wehrmacht / a suspension bridge connecting the arches on both banks
* 1973 - a steel structure with an overhead steel roadway and a mastic asphalt surface connects the two banks
* 2000 - 800-years-celebration Grimma - Steel truss bridge, replaced by a sleek steel-concrete truss rods
* 2002 - Flood of the Century - collapse of some parts of the bridge
* 2012 - Opening of the bridge - a truss arch in steel construction spans the middle bridge section
* 2013 - again flood - the Pöppelmannbrücke withstands
