Adenau ist eine Stadt in der Hocheifel. Sie gehört zum Landkreis Ahrweiler in Rheinland-Pfalz und ist Verwaltungssitz der Verbandsgemeinde Adenau, der sie auch angehört. Adenau ist ein staatlich anerkannter Fremdenverkehrsort und gemäß Landesplanung als Mittelzentrum ausgewiesen.[
Adenau trägt den Beinamen „Johanniterstadt“, da hier seit dem Mittelalter eine der ältesten Johanniter-Kommenden bestand.
