Corps of Discovery II – St. Louis (Riverfront), MO, is a 12-inch Lewis and Clark commemorative disk located in the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial National Historical Site near the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO. The disk is mounted vertically in the south face of the eight-sided base of the monumental statue “The Captains’ Return”. The statue is on the cobblestone riverfront patio a few yards south of the south side of the Eads Bridge’s first pier west of the river. The disk is about 70 feet west of the water’s edge, about 60 feet east of a stone retaining wall for a paved ramp leading north, about 41 feet south of the most southerly point on the first bridge pier west of the river, and about 2.5 feet above the ground. The Saint Louis Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors monumented the disk in September, 2006. It was dedicated during the “Confluence with Destiny: The Return of Lewis and Clark” national signature event on September 23, 2006, and visited by this correspondent on that day. The disk is not in the National Geodetic Survey database as of this writing (it does not have a PID). The disk does not have any identifying stamping other than the standard design elements of the commemorative series of disks: CORPS OF DISCOVERY II – 200 YEARS TO THE FUTURE – PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP.

To reach from the Saint Louis Arch, walk east and down-stairs for about 100 yards to the Mississippi River. Turn left and walk north for about 0.28 miles to the statue and the disk. Recovery of this station was first reported at the Geocaching datasheet for NGS Benchmark J 3, PID = JC0043.
