More from their website: "The DANK Haus German American Cultural Center is a nonprofit cultural center and language school for the education, preservation, and interpretation of German American culture and language in Chicago, Illinois.

Mission Statement - To preserve and promote German culture, heritage, and language through activities including, but not limited to, maintaining a center consisting of a museum, art gallery, library, and language school, and organizing educational and social programming focusing on and emphasizing the history, traditions, and contributions of Germans and German Americans.

1959 - The original DANK (Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress) chapter and organization was founded.

The current DANK Haus building (4740 N. Western Ave., Chicago, IL) was designed in 1927 by architect Paul Gerhardt, son in law of the Chicago Alderman and architect of Cook County Hospital, Lane Technical High School, Von Steuben High School, and the L&H Company Building. It was originally built for the Three Links Association, a jolly fellows club.

The DANK Haus Museum hosts rotating exhibits of German American and German interest. We also have a digital exhibit entitled "Community as Family" created in partnership with the Chicago Cultural Alliance and the Haitian American Museum of Chicago. Currently in the Museum:

Lost German Chicago - The exhibition features art, artifacts, and memorabilia from within Chicago’s German-American community. The items record what has been lost in the Chicago German community while archiving and preserving that which has been entrusted to the DANK Haus. Highlights include:

Exquisite wood carvings dedicated to the Germania Club by the Oscar Mayer family
Relics from the Deutsches Haus at the Columbian Exposition
Hessen Verein standards
Items from dozens of restaurants including the original Red Star Inn, Schulien’s Math Igler’s Casino, the Golden Ox, among others
Memories of St. Boniface Church
Delicatessen Meyer
FC Hansa (german soccer club)
The Schiller Liedertafel
Schoenhofen Brewery
Lincoln Park Turner Hall
and many more!

Hours: Saturdays 11am to 3pm or by appointment
Admission: Free and open to the public
Museum closed during the month of January"
