The 15-acre park has been built where the Houston Garden Center previously stood and will feature many traditional structures, attractions and sights, such as a grand entry pavilion, a rose garden, an interactive garden, an arid garden, a 30-foot garden mount and a sculpture promenade featuring public art donated by countries around the world. There will be spaces and gardens that will serve as lovely formal outdoor spaces for those wanting an event venue to rent.
"Gardens have long been an important element in Hermann Park. These intimate spaces can be a gathering spot for the community, a place for children to learn and connect with nature, and a setting to showcase the beauty and culture of an international city," according to Hermann Park's website.
Ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremonies for McGovern Centennial Gardens will take place at 9:30 a.m. Then, throughout the day and into the evening, Hermann Park has planned a number of exciting activities, including tours of the park; children's art and activities, sponsored by Macy's; lectures by the park's innovative design team; and more.
