Both the Haarstick House(now known as Harbison House) and the Whittemore House were built in 1912. The houses were designed by James P. Jamieson, former Washington University campus architect. The houses were commissioned by Henry Haarstick as homes for his two daughters.

Both houses are now owned by Washington University. The Harbison House is used as a residence for the University chancellor. The Whittemore House is used for University events.
