A sign at the site indicates that this is a replica of the old kitchen built by the Franciscan friars and the Gabrielino Indians. Meals for the friars and Spanish soldiers were prepared here. Fr. Ramon Catalan built the kitchen over the original foundation using his own mother's kitchen as a model.
