"Le château d'Étampes était un château fort royal situé dans la commune française d'Étampes, dans le pays de Beauce, aujourd'hui le département de l'Essonne et la région Île-de-France. Ne subsiste aujourd'hui que le donjon appelé depuis Tour de Guinette." Wikipdia : (visit link)

"Cette tour est l'ancien donjon d'un château royal formé de trois enceintes quadrangulaires. Représentée dans les Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry, elle se distingue par son plan quadrilobé, sans équivalent en France, permettant de dégager un large volume à vocation résidentielle. De la chemise carrée entourant le donjon, subsiste un pan de mur. L'intérieur de la tour, haute de 27 mètres, se divise en quatre étages et comporte sans doute à l'origine une plate-forme sommitale d'où s'organise la défense du château. Celui-ci doit faire face à cinq sièges, dont trois pendant les guerres de Religion. Ses défenses sont largement démantelées sous Henri IV et, à la Révolution, il est vendu comme bien national."
