This monument stands in downtown Edenton, North Carolina, near the waterfront, and stands in dedication to the Confederate dead, presumably of Chowan County. The monument depicts a Confederate soldier, with inscriptions on two faces of the pedestal.
The front face reads:
OUR CONFEDERATE DEAD
1861-1865
The rear face reads:
Gashed with honorable scars,
Low in Glorys lap they lie,
Though they fell, they fell like stars,
Streaming splendour through the sky.
Additionally, the front face has a depiction of a flag with the inscription "C. S. A."
According to "Remembering North Carolina's Confederates" by Michael C. Hardy (pg. 98), this monument was erected in 1904 by the Bell Battery Chapter of the United aughters of the Confederacy.
