"L’ILLUSTRE ET LA MAISON
Jean Cocteau (1889-1963) est à la fois poète, dessinateur, dramaturge et cinéaste. Artiste complet et prolifique, il fréquente les créateurs les plus influents de son temps (Picasso, Satie, Coco Chanel, Edith Piaf) et devient l’une des figures du Tout-Paris. Sa rencontre avec Serge de Diaghilev, mécène et directeur de troupe russe, bouleverse son parcours artistique. Il s’essaye à la poésie, au théâtre, à la critique mais se fait aussi graphiste et cinéaste avec notamment «La Belle et la Bête» pour lequel il reçoit le prix Louis Delluc. Son oeuvre, qui mêle théâtre, danse et poésie, est profondément marquée par les mythes antiques («Antigone», «La Machine Infernale», «Le Testament d’Orphée»). Il est élu à l’Académie française en 1955.
C’est en 1947 que Jean Cocteau achète avec Jean Marais la maison du Bailli à Milly-la-Forêt. Le poète y passe alors la plupart des week-ends. En novembre 1954, il devient seul propriétaire de la maison où il demeure jusqu’à sa mort en 1963.

Exposition permanente : portraits de Jean Cocteau par d’autres artistes (Picasso, Man Ray, Warhol, Buffet, etc.).
Exposition temporaire : sélection d’oeuvres originales, de films, d’extraits sonores de pièces de théâtre, de photographies et de manuscrits.
Le programme scientifique de la Maison prévoit le montage d’une nouvelle exposition temporaire thématique chaque année.

Jean Cocteau (1889-1963) was a poet, cartoonist, playwright and filmmaker. complete and prolific artist, he attended the most influential designers of his time (Picasso, Satie, Coco Chanel, Edith Piaf) and became one of the figures for all of Paris.
