Castle Theater - Pryor, OK - Vintage Movie Theaters on Waymarking.com

The Castle Theater was constructed in the fall of 1941, made of local Pryor-area native stone. Its architect was L. H. Thomas. It is a one-story building made to resemble a castle. The Pryor Main Street website indicates: "The front of the building was designed to have storefronts for about seven businesses. The theater featured a bowl type floor construction with offset seating, a glass partitioned nursery with separate sound system for mothers to enjoy the movie while caring for their children, and a powder room. The cost of the structure was about $30,000."

The theater operated from 1942 to 1955, and survived the tornado of April 27, 1942 which destroyed much of the town. The building was sold in 1956 to the American Legion who met here until 1958, after which the town used the building for the Pryor Youth Organization. Although the PYO sign is still in front, the building appears to be vacant at this time.
