The officer is mounting the gun and holds a sword in his proper right hand. A soldier kneels on his proper left with his arms held up in the air. On the proper right is a wounded soldier leaning back on his proper right hand. This group sits to the proper left of the naval group. One of several statuary groups to comprise Lincoln's Tomb. (This one is located in the back.)
Dimensions: Approx. H. 7 ft. 5 in.
Inscription: L. G. MEAD/AMES FOUNDRY/CHICOPEE signed Founder's mark appears.
Sixty-five old cannons were donated by the Federal Government to be melted down for casting materials for these pieces. This piece is one of six pieces on the monument done by Larkin G. Mead. The cost of this piece was $13,700.
