The 30-acre Frank Buck Zoo was founded in 1930 by Gainesville Community Circus leader A. Morton Smith. Relocated to Leonard Park in 1962, the zoo is home to over 130 animals, including giraffes, kangaroos and zebras.
In 1954 the zoo was renamed to honor Gainesville, Texas native Frank Buck, an actor and director who collected wild animals from all over the world, and who also worked as the zoo's ring master.
