The Campo Santo is a deeply beautiful final resting place for the Franciscan brothers and Claretian fathers at Mkision San Gabriel.

A nearby sign explains the history and significance of this place as follows:

"Since 1939 the cemetery has been used for burial of padres and brethren of San Gabriel Mission.

However, seven of the early Franciscan fathers are interred in front of the altar within this old mission chapel.

One of them, Fr. Francisco Dumetz, was the last survivor of Serra's old comrades who remained with him in California."
Group that erected the marker: Claretian Fathers
