Anteros - God of requited love - Also referred to as The Angel of Christian Charity & is often mistaken for Eros.
Anteros stands atop a exact replica of the Shaftesbury Memorial. Original located in the heart of London, in Piccadilly Circus, Great Britain.
The copy Shaftsbury memorial has been converted to a fountain, at the Harry Potter exhibit, at Amity Avenue, Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida, USA.
"Anteros was a God in Greek mythology, representing requited love, and punishing those who were not interested in love or not returning other people’s love. He was the son of the god Ares and the goddess Aphrodite, and brother of the god of love, Eros. Anteros had a similar description to Eros, bearing either a golden club or lead arrows, but his wings were plumed and likening those of a butterfly. Both brothers were companions of their mother Aphrodite. The statue in Piccadilly Circus in London depicts Anteros as a symbol of the selfless love of the Earl of Shaftesbury for the poor; it is not a statue of Eros as it is commonly mistaken." "In Greek mythology, Anteros was the god of requited love, literally "love returned" or "counter-love" and also the punisher of those who scorn love and the advances of others, or the avenger of unrequited love.
Anteros was the son of Ares and Aphrodite in Greek mythology, given as a playmate to his brother Eros, who was lonely – the rationale being that love must be answered if it is to prosper. Alternatively, he was said to have arisen from the mutual love between Poseidon and Nerites. Physically, he is depicted as similar to Eros in every way, but with long hair and plumed butterfly wings. He has been described also as armed with either a golden club or arrows of lead.
Anteros, with Eros, was one of a host of winged love gods called Erotes, the ever-youthful winged gods of love, usually depicted as winged boys in the company of Aphrodite or her attendant goddesses." text Source: (

"The famous London statue rising above the tourists and traffic in Piccadilly Circus has been the victim of mistaken identity for almost its entire existence.
Commonly referred to as Eros, the Greek god of love, the statue is in fact (and has always been) a depiction of Anteros - Eros's brother.
Other names for the statue include the Shaftesbury Monument and the Angel Of Christian Charity.
Sculptor Alfred Gilbert even called his creation Anteros, but it hasn't stopped scores of tourists - and Londoners alike - naming him after his brother Eros (or, worse still, the Roman god Cupid)."
