Kylie Tennant (author) had this slab built for her, by Ernie Metcalfe. It was donated to Crowdy Bay National Park in 1976. It is for overnight use only in emergency; with communal use during the day.

Ernie Metcalfe became the central character of one of Kylie's books, being, "The Man on the Headland".
There is 3 kilometres of track to walk between the Diamond Head camping area and another access point further south - tho there is a care park only 200 m away at S31° 43.840 E152° 47.570
On the walk you go past a couple of geocaches, including an Earthcache (and a cache at the hut).
* I have put "NO" for having to book in advance, as it is for communal use during the day, and only for emergency overnight use.
* I have put "FREE", as the hut usage is 'free', but access to the Crowdy Bay National Park requires a current National Park car sticker, or $7 a day to the Ranger Station.
* While I have put "YES" for available year round, the Crowdy Bay National Park does get closed when bushfires are a problem; and it just may be that this is the BEST place to shelter if you are walking through at that time.
