In TinTin in America, TinTin leaves New York Harbor for Europe as his adventure in America comes to a close. In this scene, he looks towards the city of New York one more time. The above coords are for one of the best places to view the city.

Don't forget to bring your binoculars because you'll need them! On a clear day you can see the Empire State Building in the distance. If you look strait up it will look like you can tough the green part of the stature, but you can't. If you look behind the statue, you will see New Jersey and if you look from the front part of it you will see New York. You are literally on an island (New York) surrounded by another state (New Jersey).

The pointed building in the background is believed to be the Empire State Building, but it is unsure if it is as it doesn't explicitly say it. The pictures from the book suggest that TinTin is leaving New York, via the Hudson River because New York is on the right hand side of the picture. This would mean that they would have been passing the Statue of Liberty, on the right side of the picture just out of view. The Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world at the time of it's completion in the 30s.
