The Kalona Depot serviced the area for many years until it became part of the historical village. A sign is posted to tell about it:
In 1879 the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern Railroad came to Kalona. In time it was sold to the Rock Island Line. The Depot Agent’s family lived upstairs. The railroad terminated service to Kalona in 1969. The Depot was moved from its original site and restored by funds raised by a “Save the Depot” campaign conducted by Alpha Club, Woman’s Federated Club in 1970-1972.
