St Matthew's Anglican Church was constructed in 1873, to replace the church (1860) destroyed by a cyclone in 1872. The small Victorian Academic Gothic style church stands in the park setting of Stirling Square.The orange brick church has tall lancet windows and a high pitched tiled roof which was originally shingled,but were replaced with terra-cotta tiles after the roof was damaged by fire in 1926
