L’église Saint-Maurille de Saint-Morillon conserve son caractère roman du XIIe siècle, malgré deux agrandissements de l’édifice aux XIVe et XVe siècles.
A l’origine, l’église comporte une nef unique terminée par une abside polygonale à l’extérieur et semi-circulaire à l’intérieur. Plus tard, elle est agrandie de deux chapelles latérales.
Cette église est dédiée à Maurille, évêque d’Angers et disciple de saint Martin de Tours au tournant des IVe et Ve siècles. On lui attribue un miracle : la résurrection d’un enfant. Visible dans l’édifice, un tableau du XVIIe siècle signé par le peintre Fournier, élève de Le Brun, représente le saint en apothéose.
A l’extérieur, de discrètes sculptures ornent la corniche de l’abside. Certains modillons ont conservé leurs motifs floraux et géométriques alternant avec des figures animales et humaines.
Même si, grâce à ses piliers, l’édifice résiste bien à l’usure du temps, des travaux de réfection sont tout de même réalisés sous l’autorité de l’abbé Brassens en 1822. La pierre tombale de ce prêtre se trouve sous le porche, et l’on peut y lire "Simon de Brassens, curé de Saint-Morillon, restaurateur de l’église" .
L’église de Saint-Morillon est considérée comme étant la seule du canton à avoir gardé son état primitif roman, avec sa nef et son clocher-mur du XIIe siècle.
