Maternice Well
Maternice is a forest game preserve and a place of pilgrimage in the valley above village Zbecník. The well, with reputedly miraculous water, was a destination of pious pilgrims who used to hang pictures of saints on the nearby trees in thanks for their recovery. In the days when plague (1757-1759) and a cholera (1832) epidemic raged in the Hronov region, the well remained the only source of wholesome potable water for people in the broad area. On the edge of the well lie a few stones resembling loaves of bread. According to legend these are loaves of bread that turned into stone when a greedy farmer's wife from Zbecnik refused to offer a slice of freshly baked bread to a wandering beggar.
The sacred place was touched up in 1992 by local inhabitants from the Maternice foundation based on the design of local painter Ivan Krejci.
