Das "Haus der Natur– Waldinformationszentrum" hält seit seiner Eröffnung 1989 Informationen und Ausstellungsstücke über die heimischen Wälder samt seiner tierischen Bewohner bereit.
Eine Dauerausstellung stellt die Lebensräume der Tier- und Pflanzenarten im Kottenforst dar.
Hier können Kinder die Natur mit Händen fühlen. Eine wandgroße Luftbildkarte der Bundesstadt Bonn und ein digitales Landschaftsmodell geben den Besuchern Informationen über die geologische, klimatische und ökologische Entwicklung in der Region. Auch Wechselausttellungen werden hier gezeigt.
Ein im Haus integriertes Bienenvolk, viele Mitmach- und Ausprobierstationen und vieles mehr lassen es den kleinen und großen Besuchern nicht langweilig werden.
Wer nach der Theorie dem im Außenbereich angelegten Waldlehrpfad folgt, gelangt zum Wildgehege, in dem auf einer Fläche von sieben Hektar Wildschweine, Rotwild und Damwild zu beobachten sind.
