This drive shaft from the S.S. Thomas Jefferson, the flagship of the Reed Steamship Lines, is located on the corner of West Sixth and Peach Streets in downtown Erie, PA. It is in front of the mansion formerly belonging to Charles Reed, a very wealthy businessman, a one-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and the owner of the Reed Steamship Lines. The mansion is now a private social club called the Erie Club. As the plaque on the drive shaft states, the S.S. Thomas Jefferson operated around the year 1834.
