The exterior of the church is a near replica of the famous mission of San Jose de Aguayo in San Antonio. In fact, the ornamental stone façade depicting Saint Joseph on the exterior of the church is a facsimile of the one adorning San Jose de Aguayo.

The facade is ornamented with six life-size statues of saints, and the entire arch of the entrance is carved in a flower and fruit design, its stone carving done by Frank T. Johnson. The famous sacristy window of San Jose has been faithfully reproduced.
