"Santa Clara University alumnus and real estate investor Ed Dowd has donated $12 million for a new art and art history building along The Alameda on the campus' north side, the university announced Thursday.
The modern three-story, 43,500-square-foot structure -- with classrooms, gallery displays, studios and a glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly in the lobby -- will replace the university's much smaller art building and is scheduled to be completed by 2016.
The university aims to raise $26 million total for the Edward M. Dowd Art and Art History Building, which will be built near Mayer Theatre, Recital Hall and other arts facilities." (
