Biosphäre (German for Biosphere) is a tropical botanical garden in Potsdam, the capital of the German state Brandenburg. It was created as part of the Bundesgartenschau (German for Federal horticulture show) in 2001 and was made a permanent exhibition after the show.
The garden displays 350 different species of tropical plants, some up to 40 feet tall. In addition to a total number of 20,000 plants, there are iguanas, geckos, frogs, birds, bats and all kind if insects.
The park also features a butterfly house and an aquarium, both, like the main exhibit, focusing on tropical species.
The park is currently maintained by the city of Potsdam. In spite of its popularity, it has been struggling financially and the city is looking for a private owner.
