Completed in 2009 by Rome-based sculptor James McDermid. The piece is intended as homage to the flyers that called the former Griffiss AFB their home field.
The piece was carved on-site during 2009. It is a rarity of outdoor carvings in that the maple section is naturally hollow, at the artist's request. His intent is to use the inner hollow space as an active part of the design.
The piece is covered in metaphorical references to flight - birds, insects etc.
The piece may be viewed from the roadside along the parkway. For a closer look, one can follow the conveniently-located footpath/bikeway. It is located near the intersection of CR825 (Wright Dr) and Brookley Road.
