Located at 101 E. 1st Street in downtown Edmond, this three story building with its full underground level is the headquarters for the Edmond Police Department, as well as the 911 Emergency Center and the Emergency Management. It houses the jail, the 911 dispatch, and the center for operations in time of disaster.
On October 29, 2015 the ribbon cutting ceremonies were attended by a large group of dignitaries, public employees and Edmond citizens, The morning was chilly, but folks braved the elements to listen to the words of the Police Chief, the Mayor, the Construction representative, and several other officials associated with this venture. Across the front of the building stood the members of the Police Department, in their dress uniforms.
After the ceremonies, the public was offered the rare opportunity of a tour of the complete facility. Throughout the building, care has been taken to provide, not only for the current needs, but the projected needs of the facility for the next 25 to 30 years. Thought has also been put into making the building pleasing to the eye. Throughout the hallways are 180 framed photos and paintings of numerous Edmond scenes - the result of a citywide contest a while back. A sculpture of Sherlock Holmes graces the three-story lobby. Next to the sculpture is a 50-year time capsule. A large classroom off the main lobby is known as Matt Terry Hall, in honor of a beloved Police Department detective who passed away in 2013.
This ribbon cutting ceremony opened a new era for City administration. To assist in the funding, the residents of Edmond voted in a 1/2 cent sales tax increase, and it appears their contribution was well spent and will serve the community for decades.
