At the Kootenay Trout Hatchery, you can purchase trout chow to feed to the trout. The fish are located in a channel, almost a moat, that surrounds most of the building.
The food dispenser is located inside the main public entrance to the hatchery. Admission is free, and the food can be purchased for 25 cents. Reusable cups are available to hold the food.
The water in the channel is only a few feet deep, so it is quite safe for all but the youngest children. There is no barrier surrounding the channel.
