The first chairlift Velká Úpa – Portášovy Boudy was opened for public use in 1968. This one-seat chairlift, made by Czech company Transporta, was 1459 m long with vertical drop 352 m. With lower station in village Velká Úpa and upper station located close to the Portaš' Chalets (Portašovy boudy also called Portašky) it served in both seasons for tourists and skiers. Old chairlift, partially reconstructed in 1983, was dismantled in 2005 and replaced by refurbished more modern Tatrapoma three-seat chairlift originally operated in Jasná Ski Centre (Slovakia).
