This manually operated steel pedestrian swing bridge was opened in June 2015 to replace an old pedestrian footbridge.
The footbridge had replaced a lift bridge that was originally installed on this site.
This new pedestrian bridge was funded by supermarket chain Tesco as part of redevelopment of the area when it opened a new store.
This Liverpool Echo news site gives details of the installation and has a picture of the old bridge being removed.

The bridges on this canal are numbered from Liverpool. Any that have a letter suffix are bridges that were constructed at a later date than the original bridges and the letter saves the need to renumber all the existing bridges.
As can be seen from this bridge number a lot of bridges have been added between bridge 2 and 3.
