The Stephen Austin Heritage Oak trees are grown from acorns harvested from the Live Oak tree that stands at Stephen F Austin's home in West Columbia, TX, where he died in 1836.
Various civic groups around state have joined together to ensure that most counties in Texas have a Stephen F Austin heritage Oak somewhere in their communities.
This Stephen F Austin Oak was planted in 2002 at the far northeastern corner of the Zavala County courthouse grounds in Crystal City, Texas.
A monument under the tree reads as follows:
"Stephen F Austin Heritage Oak
