Beechworth was a significant rural centre in the gold rush days of the 1850s. The Scottish and Ulster Presbyterians that settled in the region contracted Smith, Bank, and Cranston to build the Gothic-styled church designed by Thomas Turnbill.
The Victorian Heritage Database report (Former St Andrew's Presbyterian Church
) describes this as "a short spire".
