[map of Goodpasture]

Goodpasture Colorado
Established by the Beulah Historical Society
This memorial at the site of the former community
of Goodpasture is in memory of the pioneers who
settled the Beulah-Goodpasture area
(continued on back)

here in the 1880s at the Roper Ranch, Lee Roper developed a
small community consisting of a Post Office, General store,
blacksmith shop, church and country dance hall. From 1917 to
1926 the Pueblo County Fair and Rodeo were held in this
location. The community took its name from Wm. F. Goodpasture
one of the earlier settlers in the Beulah area who assisted
in establishing a Post Office here.

Siloam Road and the Three R Road southwest of this site
follow one of the oldest trails in Southern Colorado. This
trail was a major military route between Camp Weld, near
Denver, and Fort Garland in the San Luis Valley.

Four miles to the Southwest Mount Signal marks the entrance
to Beulah Valley. The first permanent settler, John Jacob
Sease, moved into the valley in 1865. Originally the valley
was known as "Fisher's Hole," named after Robert Fisher,
an early Mountain Man. When first settled the valley was known
as "Maces Hole" after the legendary Juan Mace [Maes] who use it
as an outlaw hideout. The community was renamed Beulah in
1876.

This marker compliments several other historic markers nearby.
