The building is a two storey brick commercial block, likely built in the latter part of the 1900s. The post office occupies less than one quarter of the total floor space therein. It stands on the corner of 20th Avenue, which serves as Blairmore's Main Street, and 127th Street.
Blairmore is just one of a series of small towns in the Crowsnest Pass area of southwestern Alberta, one right after the other along Highway 3, AKA the Crowsnest Highway. The sole reason for their existence was coal, which was found in abundance in the mountains of the pass.
More or less in the middle of the string, Blairmore has the town of Frank to its east and Coleman to its west.
