Truscott Brine Lake is located on Bluff Creek, a south bank tributary of the north fork of the Wichita River, about three miles north and one and one-half miles west of Truscott, in Knox County, Texas.

"As the only project of its kind in the Corps of Engineers, Truscott Brine Lake is fascinating, It is a part of the Red River Chloride Control Project, which was designed to reduce chloride contamination of the Red River."
"The salt source near Guthrie, Texas, on the South Fork of the Wichita River is pooled up using an inflatable dam at the Bateman Pump Station. From the Bateman Pump Station, the salt water is pumped through a 22-mile pipeline into the lake. Truscott Lake is totally contained with no means of discharging water. The surface area is large enough that it evaporates as much water as is being pumped into the lake."
"The water is released from the pipeline through 40 spray nozzles. This spray process provides a higher evaporation rate than that which would occur if the water were just allowed to flow out of the pipeline. The evaporation field is often a field of rainbows; it’s an unusual, quite alluring sight with haunting sounds."
"All the saltwater that doesn’t evaporate then makes its way into Truscott Brine Lake. The deep blue water of the lake has approximately the same salt content as an ocean. It’s even home to some saltwater fish."
"Construction of the pipeline and lake began in 1976 and was completed in 1987."
"Truscott Brine Lake consists of a rolled earthfill embankment, an uncontrolled spillway, and a right abutment access road connecting an existing county road to the relocated county road. The dam, which rises 100 feet above the streambed and has a total length of 14,800 feet, contains approximately 7,000,000 cubic yards of compacted earth. The lake will have a surface area of 3,100 acres with a storage capacity of 116,200 acre-feet when filled to the spillway crest."
