This caboose is a former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF) (Santa Fe) caboose constructed by American Car and Foundry (ACF) in 1927. It was originally numbered ATSF 1578. The caboose was purchased by the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway, (Frisco/SLSF) in April of 1971 and was renumbered as SLSF 1139. This caboose is the second to carry the number SLSF 1139. Burlington Northern acquired the caboose in 1980 when it purchased The Frisco. (from (
