Route 66 Diner, which is actually a thousand miles away from Route 66, was originally known as the New Bay Diner Restaurant. It is a good example of a post-World War II stainless steel diner. It was manufactured in 1957 as model #532 by Mountain View Diners of Signac, New Jersey and shipped to Springfield, MA the same year. It is one of the last diners manufactured by this company. The original owner, Anthony Viamare of Granby, MA called the diner the New Bay Diner Restaurant. In 1988 it was acquired by Donald Roy who changed the name to the Route 66 Diner.
The one story rectangular diner is seven bays wide and two bays deep. It has rounded corners red signs on each end of the rounded hipped roof read ROUTE 66 DINER with the word diner in neon lights. The diner has additional neon signs in many of the windows. The diner rests on a brick and concrete foundation. The main entrance is through a center vestibule and a there is a side entrance on the east side.
New Bay Diner Restaurant (Route 66 Diner) was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
