The Tionesta Dam blocks the Tionesta Creek which flows into the Allegheny River. Built by the US Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District from 1938 to 1941 it was built for flood control. The water flows through a small tunnel that is further downstream from the dam. Because the dam of the dam Tionesta Creek is classified as a lake instead. Tionesta Lake stretches six miles to Nebraska Bridge.
The dam is 1050 ft long and 154 ft high.
