Behind the IJssel river there lies the province of Overijssel. Seen from the west obviously on the other side. The IJssel river is the clearest possible border of this province. The art work marks this border on its bank. Passengers crossing the border using the ferry are the natural audience.
The "Baken van Overijssel" symbolises the water flowing past it by the vertical wave column. It is a variant on the blue stripe in the Overijssel flag. The ring of the Beacon can be seen as the letter "O" for Overijssel. The art piece measures 12.5m in height.
The artist: "I visualised the water of the IJssel in the wide space of the floddplains. A vertical river. The water flows from top to bottom. This is a law of nature that transcends all borders."
