The Private Hospital, the Sydney Sanitarium and Hospital has had a Helipad out the front since the 1990's. I am not sure when the Emergency Department opened, but I think it was 2000. I was working in the laundry of the Hospital in the early 1980's, and remember a couple of times that provision had to be made to receive critically ill private patients.
With the opening of the Emergency Department, and the need to more frequently accept ill and injured patients this area was tightened up on the front lawn, to make it safer. There is a wind sock on the western side of the multi-storey (12 floors; 10 above, and 2 'below ground') Hospital.

[BTW, if you hear of this called 'the SAN', it is NOT a miss placed acronym, but comes from the original name of, The Sydney Sanitarium and Hospital, which changed with the opening of the 'new' building of 1977.]
