EN: The Church of St. Martin is located west of the old town of Olten. The three-aisled basilica is considered the "most significant neo-Romanesque church in Switzerland from the late period of historicism".

After the majority of the Catholics of Olten had joined the Old Catholic Church in 1872, a temporary church was built by the remaining Roman Catholic population 1875/76. By the end of the 19th century the number of Catholics had grown again, so that the place had become too small.

The famous architect Augustin Hardegger presented in 1904 a neo-baroque design, but the bishop demanded a Romanesque church, although this was almost twice as expensive. By 1908 enough money was collected and the construction could start. In April 1910, the construction works were completed and the church was inaugurated on 14 August by the diocesan bishop Dr. Jakob Stammler.
